 ‘COMMUNITY - TIME TO LISTEN’

‘The latest painting from the Croydon Based Artist’

‘By listening to each other everyone can learn and work together to build a better community’ this is the message in the painting titled ‘Community’ from the Croydon based artist, Ruth Bircham who will be exhibiting this piece and many other pieces of art this year September at Fairfield Halls. Ruth Bircham was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1966, she started painting before the age of six; she used art as a means of communication before she learnt to speak.

Ruth then went on to study an Access to Art and Design at Croydon College in 2000. It was on this course, that Ruth began her experimentation of bringing the outside environment into her art work.  She became influenced by the Renaissance, Impressionist, Abstract Realism and Corporeality. In 2001 Ruth studied a BA (Hon) In Fine Art Combined Media, This course allowed her to develop her idea’s further. She also gained knowledge in printing, film editing, using various computer software’s and business studies.

During this course Ruth’s work was exhibited at the Parfait Gallery at Croydon College in 2001 and in 2002, and also at a group exhibition in 2005. Ruth latest exhibition took place in Nigeria February 2009 where she collaborated on various partings with two other artists Tayo Shoyemi and Ayoola Odupitan. This event took place after her Croydon Exhibition called ‘Exploitation’ at Fairfield Halls last year September 2008

Ruth uses her art to express her thoughts and feelings and many of her works display her life experiences.  Other pieces are also based on her interpretations of certain parts of the body and how they are viewed.   Ruth will now exhibit some of her latest works with her newly formed art group Kreative Minds, This group aims to bridge the gap between diversity and provide education through art.

This particular exhibition called ‘Exploitation of the Internal Mind’ will be based on our environment today and combining cultures and countries, the event is both educational and mind challenging. And all art work is for sale!

OUR CROYDON OR A SHAMBLES?

Local Event Organiser Disgusted with Croydon Council!

They say its your Croydon and have even started a newspaper which will be delivered to your home showing your views and the latest events in Croydon, but yet they still refuse to support a local event taking place right under their noses.   A newly formed art local and international art group ‘ Kreative Minds’ are due to exhibit several pieces of art work at Faifield Halls Croydon This September., Yet after numerous emails were sent to Croydon Council and also telephone calls they finally advised us that they were unable to support or sponsor an event that does not fall within their grants scheme. We explained that we understand this but are not asking for any financial costs just their attendance will be support enough, but they still refused to attend.

Event Organiser Miss Martins Says “Even the Local Mayor has no intention of attending the event, yes he may be very busy, but isn’t this what they all keep banging on about, the community and how they support positive actions, well where are they now? And why are they not even willing to send a representative on their behalf”We find is strange how this is a community event but few organisation that involve and cater for the community are not willing to come on board and even look the other way by ignoring the requests for support.A Local Supporter Adds “The event is both educational and eye opening and the art group believe this is exactly what is needed for the people of today society and so do i”.

Another Adds ‘ I understand that the Council have to follow set procedures but they shouldn’t ignore this event all together’ Ruth Says “ We are trying to make a positive change within the environment which we all have to live in, but without the support  and encouragement of the Local Authorities this is going to take a little more work than anticipated However it will happen”
